MTA: LIRR service disruption on Montauk line was due to person on tracks

Train service on the Montauk branch of the Long Island Rail Road was disrupted early Saturday between Patchogue and Bellport while police investigated a report of an intoxicated person on the tracks, authorities said.

Aaron Donovan, spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said the emergency call came in about 6:25 a.m. about a person on tracks east of Patchogue.

MTA police responded and found a woman with lacerations of an unknown origin, Donovan said.

It was not immediately clear where the lacerations were on her body. The woman, who police did not identify, was transported to Brookhaven Hospital.

MTA police are investigating the nature and cause of her injuries, said Donovan.

Service was restored as of 10:26 a.m. in both directions, after two trains were delayed about 90 minutes -- the 7:04 a.m. departure from Montauk and the 7:09 a.m. departure from Jamaica. The 8:10 a.m. departure from Jamaica was delayed 30 minutes, an LIRR spokesman said.
