Service on the Ronkonkoma, Huntington and Port Jefferson branches of the Long Island Rail Road is operating close to schedule following a temporary suspension during the Tuesday evening rush, the LIRR said on its website.

The suspension was because of "a utility pole fire adjacent to the tracks east of Westbury," the LIRR said.

By about 5 p.m. the fire was extinguished "and LIRR crews are on scene to evaluate the situation," the LIRR said.

After the service was restored, riders faced delays until about 9 p.m. when trains began running on time, the LIRR said.
