LIRR: Service returns to normal after person struck by train
Service has returned to normal on the Babylon and Montauk branches of the Long Island Rail Road after an "unauthorized person" was struck by a train at the Copiague station, the LIRR said.
The woman survived and was cared for by emergency medical service workers and MTA police, and before being taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries, said LIRR spokeswoman Meredith Daniels.
The woman was hit by an eastbound train due to arrive in Babylon at 3:21 p.m., an LIRR statement said.
She ended up under the third car, said Daniels, who did not have specifics as to how that came about.
Earlier, LIRR commuters on Thursday had faced delays and cancellations on the Babylon and Montauk branches during the evening rush hour.
Several trains on the Babylon line were delayed by 10 to 20 minutes, with a few canceled completely. Service had returned to normal by 7:30 p.m., according to the LIRR.
