A track condition in one of the East River tunnels caused delays, cancellations and diversions to some Long Island Rail Road trains into and out of Penn Station Thursday morning, officials said.

A railroad spokesman said Amtrak emergency crews were on the scene, making repairs -- and the railroad announced shortly after 7 a.m. that repairs had been made and that trains were back on schedule.

Amtrak owns and operates the four tunnels.

The situation caused operational problems to trains on the Babylon, Port Jefferson and Port Washington branches -- and trains moving into and out of New York, officials said.

Officials said the New York City Transit subway system cross-honored fares on the No. 2 and 3 trains from Atlantic Terminal and on the 7 train from Hunterspoint Avenue.

Meanwhile, the 5:56 a.m. train from Babylon to Penn Station was diverted to Atlantic Terminal, while the eastbound 7:23 a.m. train from Penn will operate as scheduled.

The 6:14 a.m. train from Massapequa Park, due at Penn at 7:08 a.m., was canceled, passengers accommodated by the 6:12 a.m. and the 6:26 a.m. trains.

The 6:17 a.m. train from Port Washington, due to arrive at Penn at 7:03 a.m., also was canceled. Customers were accommodated by the 6:27 a.m. train -- arriving at Penn at 7:14 a.m.

Officials said the 6:25 a.m. train from Hicksville to Penn was canceled, as well. Those passengers were accommodated by another train from Port Jefferson, as well as the 6:15 a.m. train from Huntington that made added stops at Carle Place, Merillon Avenue and New Hyde Park, officials said.
