LIRR: Montauk Branch service restored after crash, authorities say
No one was injured when a nonpassenger train struck an SUV on the tracks Friday night in Mastic, forcing service to be temporarily suspended in both directions, authorities said.
The crash occurred at the Mastic Road grade crossing south of Mastic Boulevard about 7:55 p.m., just as weekenders headed out to the Hamptons.
Several trains were delayed or canceled, the LIRR tweeted. Service was on or close to schedule by Saturday morning.
Authorities could not immediately say why the SUV drove onto the tracks; the driver was not arrested and no summons was issued.
