LIRR: Train kills man; Port Jeff line resumes

A man was struck and killed by a train Tuesday in St. James, causing the temporary suspension of all service on the Port Jefferson branch of the Long Island Rail Road, the railroad said.

Railroad spokesman Sam Zambuto said the incident, which occurred about 12:20 p.m. at the St. James station, remained under investigation by MTA Police. The identity of the victim was not released.

Service was restored just before 2:30 p.m., according to the MTA website.

The train involved in the accident was the 11:50 a.m. train from Huntington and it was carrying about 150 passengers and was scheduled to arrive in Port Jefferson at 12:37 p.m., Zambuto said. No passengers were injured.
