Emergency responders were called to the Long Island Rail Road station in Central Islip after a Ronkonkoma Branch train hit an unauthorized person on the tracks early Tuesday. Credit: Stringer News Service

An unauthorized person on the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Central Islip was struck and killed by a train early Tuesday, the railroad said.

The fatality occurred about 12:40 a.m. and service on the Ronkonkoma Branch was suspended in both directions until 3:15 a.m., the railroad said.

An investigation was continuing, the railroad said.
