DOT: Portion of eastbound LIE reopens after motorcycle fatality

A Holbrook motorcyclist died after crashing early Tuesday morning in the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk police said.
Joseph Jacob, 25, crashed his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle into the guardrail, according to a deputy with the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Office, who came upon the crash in Holtsville, between exits 62 and 63, at about 5:40 a.m., the police statement said.
The eastbound lanes that were closed during an investigation were reopened to traffic shortly after 1 p.m.
Jacob was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
