Cops: Pennsylvania man arrested after fleeing LIE crash

A Pennsylvania man was arrested early Monday after fleeing an accident on the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills, police said.

The accident caused the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes and service road overnight, officials said.

George Peralta, 35, of Lansford, was driving eastbound between exits 51 and 52 at 3:37 a.m. when his 2012 Chevrolet Cruze struck the back of a 2013 Hino box truck, Suffolk County police said.

“Following the collision, the truck veered into the woods and Peralta continued driving eastbound for approximately ¼ of a mile before stopping when his vehicle became disabled due to damage,” Assistant Police Commissioner Justin Meyers said in a statement. Meyers did not say whether there were any injuries.

Peralta was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Peralta faces a weapons charge because he had a stun gun on him at the time of his arrest, police said.

Police did not say when Peralta is scheduled for arraignment.
