Long Island Hurricane Preparedness Expo set for Oct. 24

With the will-it-or-won't-it track of Hurricane Joaquin still in mind (and, happily, it didn't), Long Islanders looking for information and guidance on emergency preparedness have a new, no cost community event to attend.

It's the Long Island Hurricane Preparedness Expo, planned for Oct. 24 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Saint Joseph's College gymnasium in Patchogue.

Information is to be provided on issues such as storm tracking, packing a family disaster kit, and emergency planning for companion animals.

Eleven government and company exhibitors are registered so far, including Suffolk and Nassau counties' emergency management teams, the Salvation Army of Suffolk County, and businesses involved with clean up and restoration, home improvements and window protection.

The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, Long Island Builders Institute and Storm Stoppers Window & Door Protection are event sponsors.
