A 19-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman were killed in a two-car crash Friday night in Farmingville when the teenager's speeding car crossed into oncoming traffic on County Road 83, Suffolk County police said.

The crash occurred about 8:40 p.m. when Joseph Correa lost control of an Acura traveling south on County Road 83 and slammed into a northbound Suzuki driven by Madeline Vicich of Selden, police said.

Doctors at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue pronounced Correa, of Medford, dead at 9:22 p.m. Vicich was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m.

A passenger in the car Correa was driving was treated at Stony Brook for a broken arm, police said.

Police said Correa was going 90 mph and that speed was a factor in the crash.

No one answered the door at Vicich's Selden home. Her stunned neighbors hugged each other Saturday afternoon as word spread about the crash.

"She was a good neighbor," said Louann Turley, who wiped away tears as she said she considered Vicich, a doting grandmother, a member of her family.

At Correa's home in Medford, a woman paced in the street, weeping and wailing in Spanish. Friends and family said Correa's mother was at a funeral parlor, making arrangements for her son.
