Man, 64, dies in Sayville crash

A Brentwood man died Wednesday evening, about four hours after the car he was riding in was involved in a collision in Sayville, Suffolk County police said.

Tyran Mohan, 64, of 62 Walton St., died at Southside Hospital in Brentwood at 6:39 p.m., police said. Mohan was a passenger in a 2008 Honda driven by Adina Nickie-Mohan, 63, when, police said, the car drove west onto Lakeland Avenue from Eastover Road without stopping and was struck by a southbound 2003 GMC van driven by Alexander Pappas, 51, of North Clinton Avenue in Bay Shore.

The crash occurred at 2:55 p.m., police said.

Police said they did not know the relationship between Nickie-Mohan and the victim, but said Nickie-Mohan told them her brakes failed.

She also was taken to Southside Hospital with unknown injuries. Police said her condition was not immediately available Thursday.

Fifth Squad detectives said the crash remains under investigation.
