A 97-year-old Massapequa Park man was struck by a car and killed Sunday afternoon as he tried to cross a street in Amityville, Suffolk County police said.

Roy Coar was walking across Broadway near Locust Drive when he was struck by a southbound 2004 Honda Accord at 4:45 p.m., police said. Coar was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Honda, Jason Castellano, 30, of East Meadow, was not injured in the crash. He was not charged.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
