A 97-year-old Massapequa Park man was struck by a car and killed as he tried to cross a street in Amityville Sunday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

Roy Coar was walking across Broadway near Locust Drive when he was struck by a southbound 2004 Honda Accord at 4:45 p.m., police said. Coar was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Honda, Jason Castellano, 30, of East Meadow, was not injured in the crash. He was not charged.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
