A West Babylon man in court Tuesday to plead on a misdemeanor petty larceny charge was in possession of anti-anxiety medicine without a prescription, Southampton Town Police said.

Mark R. Noble, 29, appeared in Southampton Town Justice Court at about 12:20 p.m. on a previous charge and was remanded to Suffolk County jail, police said.

While being processed, Noble was found by a court officer "to be in possession of a quantity of Xanax pills without a prescription," according to a news release.

Noble is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

His arraignment information on the new charge was not immediately available.
