Man arrested in Quiogue salvage-yard theft

Police said a man arrested after he attempted to steal parts from an auto salvage yard in Quiogue on Tuesday afternoon turned out to be wanted on a warrant in Kansas, as well as by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement -- having been previously deported.

David C. Hernandez, who police said also is known as Miguel Guzman, was charged with petty larceny after his arrest at J&V Auto Salvage at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Southampton Town police said.

Police said the 35-year-old said he lived in Westbury.

Police said Hernandez was arrested by officers who responded to a call reporting he had been seen stealing auto parts at the salvage yard.

A fingerprint analysis alerted police that Hernandez was wanted by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office in Kansas on warrants for charges that include possession of drugs with intent to sell, police said.

Police said Hernandez also was wanted by ICE because he had previously been deported.

Hernandez was held overnight for arraignment, pending his extradition to Kansas.
