A mourner attending the wake Wednesday night for a 16-year-old recently shot and killed was arrested on gun related charges after an altercation with another man, police said.

Tashaun Wallace, 20, of Deer Park, was arrested shortly after leaving the wake for Tyler Daniels in Amityville. Daniels was shot and killed in Wyandanch Sept. 26. Police say Daniels was breaking into a home at the time but his family contends he was murdered in cold blood.

Wallace and others mourners left the wake and were in a nearby parking lot on Sunrise Highway, Copiague, when Wallace became involved in an altercation, Suffolk police said.

Wallace then retrieved a loaded semiautomatic handgun from his car, police said. But he was confronted by detectives at the scene. Wallace initially pointed the gun at detectives, but then dropped the weapon and attempted to flee, police said.

He was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and criminal contempt in reference to an order of protection that prohibited Wallace from possessing firearms.

Wallace was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Central Islip.
