A Sayville man was arrested Tuesday evening after he robbed a 7-Eleven store earlier in the day and a liquor store last week, Suffolk police said.

In both robberies, James Schenck, 21, showed what appeared to be a handgun to the cashier and demanded money, police said.

He fled with several hundred dollars from Michael's Wines and Liquors on Sayville's Main Street at 4:25 p.m. Friday, said Det. Sgt. Alan Feinstein of the Fifth Precinct. Schenck also took a small amount of money from the Oakdale 7-Eleven on Montauk Highway at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, he said.

Fifth Precinct undercover detectives had been trailing Schenck when they arrested him without incident on Sayville's Main Street about 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Feinstein said a "simulated pistol" was recovered after the arrest but declined to say where.

Schenck, of 25 Greene Ave, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
