A Centereach man was seriously injured when he lost control of his car exiting Sunrise Highway in Eastport Wednesday evening, struck trees, flipped and was ejected from the vehicle, State Police said.

Police said they are investigating whether another vehicle may have cut off the driver's 1999 Nissan Maxima and caused the crash.

The driver, identified as Christopher Costello, 19, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

The crash was on westbound Sunrise near Exit 62, the exit for Port Jefferson-Westhampton Road, also known as County Route 111 or Captain Daniel Roe Highway.

Police said Costello lost control of the Nissan, possibly after being cut off, crossed over the exit ramp, struck several small trees, rolled over and was ejected. It was not immediately clear if Costello was wearing a seat belt at the time.

Police said the Eastport Fire Department and Westhampton Beach Ambulance responded to the crash site and said a Suffolk police helicopter took Costello to Stony Brook.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact investigators at 631-728-3000.
