Man charged in slashing at Central Islip bar

Suffolk County police arrested a Deer Park man for allegedly slashing another man with a box cutter early Saturday morning at a Central Islip bar and restaurant.

Wilson Martinez, 24, of 9 Franklin Ave. in Deer Park, was charged with first-degree assault in the attack that took place at Mi Encanto on Carleton Avenue, police said.

Police said Martinez slashed the victim, a Florida resident, during an altercation between two groups of men. The victim was treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for nonlife threatening injuries on his torso -- from shoulder to waist, police said.

Martinez was arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip.
