Taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains, a burglary suspect in leg shackles escaped from Suffolk County police Sunday.
He has not been caught.
Police said Kenneth Herlich, 27, escaped from Stony Brook University Medical Center Sunday at 5 a.m., fleeing in a 1998 BMW he stole - taking the car after pushing a valet parking attendant out of the way.
News 12 Long Island reported the car was later recovered outside Herlich's home at the La Bonne Vie apartments in Patchogue. Police said they could not confirm that report.
Herlich had been arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest when police took him to Stony Brook on Sunday.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
