A Rocky Point man faces drug and alcohol charges after he made a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming police car, causing a collision with his pickup truck and boat trailer Monday evening, Suffolk County police said.

William Roden III was driving a 1988 GMC pickup truck, towing a boat on a trailer, when he caused the crash with a Suffolk police car at 8:35 p.m. on Route 25A near Eagle Road, the police said.

The driver of the car, Seventh Precinct Police Officer Kevin Corrigan, had been on patrol on westbound Route 25A in Rocky Point at the time. He was not injured.

The officer determined that Roden was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and arrested him, police said.

Roden, 49, of 48 Freya Rd., was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court, Central Islip.
