Man faces DWI charges in Water Mill hit-and-run
A 35-year-old New Hyde Park man was arrested Sunday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated after he struck a bicyclist in Water Mill and fled the scene, police said.
Jeffery W. Lawrence was charged with DWI, as well as leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, moving from his lane unsafely and with making an unsafe turn, Southampton Town police said.
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
Police said Lawrence struck the bicyclist on Montauk Highway at about 1:05 a.m., but was arrested a short time later.
The bicyclist, whose identity was not released, was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment. The cyclist was later released, police said.
