A man stopped for making an illegal turn Tuesday in front of a patrol car near his Melville home faces a charge of unlawfully dealing with fireworks after police found several holiday explosives in his car, Suffolk County police said.
William C. Legette III, 40, of 202 Paumonauk Hills Ct., is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip on the fireworks charge, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and numerous traffic violations, police said.
Legette failed to use his signal when he made a turn in front of a patrol car being driven by Second Precinct Crime Section officers near the 100 block of Paumonauk Hills Court at about 7:50 p.m., police said.
Officers then found Legette's 2007 Saturn Vue "contained numerous types of fireworks," according to a news release.
