Man hit crossing Deer Park street, Suffolk police say

A man crossing Commack Road in Deer Park was seriously injured late Wednesday when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle, Suffolk County police said.
The pedestrian was hit about 11 p.m. as he crossed north of the railroad tracks, near Long Island Avenue, a police spokeswoman said.
He was struck by a Nissan Xterra that was traveling south in the inside lane, the spokeswoman said.
The man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said the driver of the Xterra stayed at the scene and no charges are pending.
