Suffolk County police are looking for a man who struck another man in the head Monday night with a Molotov cocktail in front of a Smithtown residence.

A police spokeswoman said the man was outside a house on Winston Drive at about 11:09 p.m. when another man threw the firebomb at him.

The incendiary device did not ignite when it hit the victim, so he was not burned, the spokeswoman said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with what police described as a "mild" head injury.

The case is still under investigation, she said, and she had no further information, including whether the attacker was on foot or in a moving vehicle when the device was thrown.
