Man hit, killed in Nesconset crossing street, police say

Suffolk County police are investigating an accident that killed a pedestrian in Nesconset on Wednesday night.
A man walking on Nesconset Highway, Route 347, at the intersection of Browns Road was hit by a 2000 Jeep Cherokee at about 9:10 p.m., police said.
Andrew Sanchez, 23, of Bay Shore, was driving the Jeep west on Nesconset Highway when he struck the man, who was crossing from the median to the north side of the road, police said.
The pedestrian, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was taken by Nesconset Fire Department Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Sanchez was not injured and no charges are pending, police said.
His vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
