Railroad police are investigating how a man who was struck and killed early Saturday at the Babylon Long Island Rail Road station got onto the train tracks, authorities said.

Kevin Lherisson, 24, of East Meadow, was found after a passenger told authorities he thought he saw a man on the tracks. Police checking out the report found Lherisson at about 3 a.m. underneath the platform.

"We don't know how he got down there," said Long Island Rail Road spokeswoman Marjorie Anders.

The crew of the train that police believe struck Lherisson -- which at that point was met at the Jamaica terminal -- told investigators that "they were unaware of striking anyone," she said.

The train was taken out of service pending the investigation.

Anders declined to say which train police believe struck Lherisson.
