A man found burning in a parking lot in Copiague Sunday was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, police and fire officials said.

Suffolk County police said a 911 call reporting a burn victim in the lot at Great Neck Road and Railroad Avenue was received at about 8 p.m.

Police said Monday they could not identify the man, had no word on his condition, and could not say if the fire was a criminal act or accidental.

Initial reports the man was homeless could not be confirmed by police, who said the incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Arson Squad at 631-852-6024 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
