A 72-year-old man in a wheelchair man fell into the water off a Port Jefferson dock Sunday afternoon, police said.

Suffolk police said the man was strapped in his wheelchair while on the dock off Broadway with his family when he went over the side and into the water. Officers responded to a 911 call about 2:40 p.m. and the man, whose identity was not released, was removed from the water after about 10 to 15 minutes, police said.

The man was taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was in critical condition Sunday, officials said.
