A man was seriously injured Tuesday night after his car left the road, careened into the woods and burst into flames in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk police said.

Police said they responded to a 911 call about 10:56 p.m. regarding a "car going into the woods" at Woodbury Road near Hawxhurst Road. The car went up in flames, and the man inside was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Fire officials from the Huntington Fire Department said the blaze spread from the car to a small area of the surrounding woods, but was extinguished by 11:45 p.m.

The extent of the man's injuries were unknown, and further details were not immediately available.
