Witnesses told police they saw a car traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst when it spun out of control and struck two poles near the 44th Street intersection. (July 14, 2010) Credit: Paul Mazza

A Bay Shore man was killed early Wednesday in North Lindenhurst when he lost control of his car, hit two poles and flipped over, according to police.

Suffolk detectives are investigating the fatal crash near the intersection of 44th Street and Sunrise Highway, police said. Eric Shaw, 46, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and later pronounced dead, police said.

Witnesses said they saw the vehicle - a 1996 Nissan Maxima - eastbound on Sunrise Highway just after midnight when it crashed, rolled over and came to a stop in a nearby parking lot, according to the police report.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8146 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
