A West Babylon man pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to an indictment charging him with stabbing his older brother to death during an argument over beer.

John Beaumont, 54, is charged with second-degree murder in the death last week of his brother Thomas, 57. Assistant District Attorney Glenn Kurtzrock said Beaumont stabbed his brother once in the chest and once in the neck after Thomas apparently drank most of the beer in the house, and then called 911.

Beaumont told both the 911 operator and the police officer who arrived at the scene what he had done, Kurtzrock said.

"He loves his brother," said his attorney, Richard Stafford. "He would never intentionally kill his brother. They were supposed to go camping this weekend."

Suffolk County Court Judge Barbara Kahn ordered Beaumont held without bail.
