An Islip Terrace man who police said fled after he hit a teenager crossing a Bay Shore street has pleaded not guilty, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Officials said Alfred Buckman, 51, struck James Vaughn, 18, of Bay Shore as he was crossing Fifth Avenue at Howells Road on the afternoon of May 15. As a result of the accident, Vaughn "suffered a serious head injury and broken bones," Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota's office said in a news release.

Buckman, who lives at 14 Lorigan St., pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at a red light and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

He is being held pending $75,000 bond.
