A man was injured when he ran out from a gas station lot in North Bay Shore Wednesday and into the side of a moving Suffolk County police car.

A department spokeswoman said the man, in his 20s, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with injuries determined to be non-life-threatening.

A marked car from the COPE unit was traveling south on Fifth Avenue near Wisconsin Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. when the man ran out from the BP station and into the driver side quarter panel, the spokeswoman said.

There were no other injuries, but police closed Fifth Avenue for several hours, starting just before 11 p.m., the spokeswoman said.

No charges are pending at this time, she said.
