The body of an adult man was pulled from the waters at Kings Park Bluff on Saturday after Suffolk police investigated a report of a car plunging into the water, officials said.

A 911 call was placed about 10:40 p.m. Friday about a car going into the water off Old Dock Road where the Nissequogue River meets the Long Island Sound, a Suffolk police spokeswoman said. Investigators were still searching for the car Saturday evening, the spokeswoman said. It was unclear if the man's identity was known to police.

"We did recover the body of an adult male, and we are still searching for the car," the spokeswoman said about 1:15 p.m.

A call to 911 was made Saturday morning about 7:35 a.m. reporting a body on a sandbar in the river, the spokeswoman said. Police units responded and recovered the body about 8 a.m.

About 4:40 p.m., police were still on scene, another spokeswoman said.

"They believe they know where the vehicle is, but it's still under investigation," the second spokeswoman said. The agency's Marine Bureau, which uses boats and divers in emergency situations, responded to the scene and is still investigating, the spokeswoman said.
