Suffolk police are asking that anyone with information come forward after a 30-year-old man was shot in the head and critically injured early Saturday outside a pub in West Babylon.

Michael Anderson, of West Babylon, was in Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 2:20 a.m. when Anderson and a friend had walked back to the Stone Hedge Pub on Sunrise Highway, after having just purchased cigars at a nearby gas station, police said.

The friend told police that someone in a car parked in front of the pub, on the Sunrise Highway service road, called Anderson by a nickname. Anderson walked behind the car, and the friend, who told police he was walking back into the pub, said he heard a gunshot, police said.

Police said the friend went back outside and found Anderson lying on the service road.

Anyone with information about the crime can call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
