Suffolk County police say they are seeking this man in the theft of a credit card in Lake Ronkonkoma that was used to buy about $800 in goods from stores in Suffolk County. (September 2011) Credit: SCPD

A credit card stolen from a car on a Lake Ronkonkoma street was used for about $800 in purchases, and Suffolk police say they have a photo of a suspect.

Police are searching for the man -- and asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect.

The credit card was taken sometime between 5 p.m. Sept. 23 and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24 from a car on Spectacle Lake Drive, police said. The card was then used to make illegal purchases between Sept. 24 and Sept. 26. Police said the card was finally declined on Sept. 27, when the suspect tried to use it at a 7-Eleven in Ronkonkoma. It was not clear what items were bought with the card -- or where.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect, whose image police said was captured on surveillance equipment, to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
