Man stopped on traffic violation wanted on drug felony, police said
Southampton Town police stopped a Water Mill man for making an illegal U-turn in Bridgehampton early Tuesday, then discovered he was wanted on a felony drug charge from 1990 in New York City, police said.
Santiago Gomez, 50, was stopped after making the turn on the Sag Harbor Turnpike at 12:08 a.m., police said. An investigation revealed that Gomez's license was suspended in 1989 and that he was wanted by New York City police on a bench warrant for criminal possession of a controlled susbstance dating to 1990.
Gomez is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was being held at Southampton Town Police Headquarters, where he was to be released to city authorities, police said.
