A man was hospitalized with serious injuries Friday night after he was struck by a car in Riverhead, police said.

Patrick Padden, 59, was walking in the westbound lane of County Route 58 (Old Country Road) near Harrison Avenue, at 7:50 p.m. when he was struck by a 1997 Buick LeSabre, Riverhead Town police said.

Padden, who is homeless, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police impounded the Buick for a safety check. Charges are not anticipated against the car’s driver, Francis Zebrowski, 89, of Aquebogue.

Police said the investigation is continuing and are asking witnesses to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
