A man who apparently had a heart attack on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean off Jones Beach was pronounced dead Tuesday at Nassau University Medical Center, the hospital said.

The unidentified man was taken to the hospital after the Coast Guard escorted the Opah, a 22-foot cabin cruiser, to Jones Beach, where the boat met an ambulance.

Coast Guard officials said the man was "red in the face, had difficulty breathing and collapsed" aboard the boat, which was about five miles south of Jones Inlet.

State Park Police said the man had gone into cardiac arrest while aboard the boat.

The incident occurred sometime around 9:45 a.m. or 10 a.m., officials said.
