Police said a woman slain Tuesday in a Bay Shore murder-suicide had a restraining order against her killer -- her ex-boyfriend and the father of one of her children.
The estranged couple, Jason Jenkins and Santia Williams, had been embroiled in a dispute over when he could see their infant daughter, Suffolk police said.
And Tuesday about 1 a.m., Jenkins stormed upstairs with a shotgun into the Spruce Street apartment house they once shared and fatally shot Williams and then himself in the living room, police said.
"They were arguing over child custody issues, and he shot his girlfriend and then took his own life," said Det. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky, of the Suffolk police homicide squad.
During the shooting, Williams' sister, Shanna Jordan, 30, jumped out of the second-story apartment, breaking her leg, police said. She was taken to Southside Hospital, where she was being treated Tuesday.
Jenkins, 27, and Williams, 26, died at the home.
Police said three children -- Jordan's 12-year-old son, Williams' 5-year-old daughter from another relationship, and the couple's 3-month-old -- were home at the time but unhurt.
The slayings capped a tumultuous relationship that included a breakup and the restraining order, which was served and in effect against Jenkins on Friday, police and neighbors said.
"She was a good mother. She was trying to get away from this guy," said Williams' brother Dave Ward, who spent Tuesday afternoon cleaning up the crime scene with friends after police had left.
Just before the shooting, neighbors said, Jenkins rode onto the block on his bicycle and began asking for beer and cigarettes.
And before going into the home where his ex-girlfriend lived, Jenkins chain-smoked, ranted about Jordan meddling in his relationship with Williams, and apparently spoke with Williams on a cellphone, said neighbor Glenn Griffen.
Another neighbor, who gave her name as Tina, said before the shooting: "He kept saying, 'Where are my babies?' "
