Medford man dies in Manorville crash that ripped car in half, police say
A Medford man died from his injuries after losing control while driving in Manorville and hitting a telephone pole and tree on Monday night, police said.
Matthew A. Tosques Jr. was driving his 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix south on Schultz Road when he came to a curve and left the roadway, Riverhead Town police said in a news release Tuesday morning.
The car struck the pole and tree before coming to a stop back in the roadway, police said. Photographs from the scene show the car was ripped in half by the impact.
Riverhead police responded at 11:26 p.m., police said. The Manorville Fire Department also responded. Tosques was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle was impounded for safety checks, police said. The crash is under investigation and police ask anyone with information to contact them at 631-727-4500.
