One driver was killed and another was seriously injured in a wrong-way head-on crash late Thursday night on the Long Island Expressway service road in Melville, police said.

Suffolk County police said Marie Louis, 56, of North Amityville, was driving a 2005 Honda Civic westbound in the eastbound lanes of Express Drive South when she collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC driven by a 61-year-old woman from North Baldwin. The collision occurred at about 11:15 p.m. at Maxess Road, police said.

Police said Louis was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where she was pronounced dead.

The other driver also was taken to NUMC with serious injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for further investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Second Squad detectives at 631-854-8252.
