Police: Driver in Commack crash that killed motorcyclist drove without license
A Brentwood man was driving without a license when his minivan collided with a motorcycle in Commack, killing its rider Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.
Christopher Colella was operating a blue 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle southbound on Indian Head Road when his vehicle hit a northbound 1999 Chevrolet Venture minivan that was attempting to make a left turn onto Somers Lane in Commack at about 6:50 a.m., police said
Colella, 26, of Kings Park, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Marino Guillen, 57, of Washington Avenue, was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown for minor injuries, police said.
Guillen was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to police.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and, police said, the investigation is continuing.
