A Chihuahua was rescued early Tuesday morning after falling into a storm drain outside of its owner’s house in Mastic, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the incident happened at about 8 a.m. in front of the home on Madison Street.

According to an emailed statement from Police Commissioner Timothy Sini, Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section Officers Keith Jordan and Carmine Pellegrino rescued the dog.

“Patrol officers removed the grate and Officers Jordan and Pellegrino used a ladder to climb into the drain, which was about 15 feet deep, to rescue the dog, which was returned to its owner,” Sini said.

A police spokeswoman said no additional details were available.
