A 56-year-old man died in a house fire Monday evening in Mastic and his parents and a firefighter were treated at hospitals, the Suffolk County Police Department said.

Callers to 911 about 6:40 p.m. reported a fire at a home on Overlook Drive, according to a police news release late Monday.

Responding officers found the victim, Frank Gaeta, "deceased on the back deck," police said in the release.

His parents, John Gaeta, 80, and Maryann Gaeta, 81, escaped and were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.

A Mastic firefighter was transported to a hospital for burn treatment, according to the police.

Information about the conditions of the firefighter and the Gaeta couple was not immediately available.

Detectives with the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section are investigating the cause of the fire.
