A police officer was injured during a "violent struggle" with a drunken-driver after an early morning pursuit Friday in North Bellport, police said.
Keenan was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was treated and later released.
Mack was charged with second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, resisting arrest and was issued numerous traffic summonses.
He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said Keenan spotted Mack at 1:22 a.m. driving a white Acura east on Montauk Highway at "a high rate of speed" and attempted to make a traffic stop. Instead, police said, Mack fled the scene -- sparking a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended when Mack finally stopped the vehicle on Carver Boulevard in North Bellport and fled on foot.
Police said Keenan caught Mack, but that a "violent struggle" ensued during which Mack punched and kicked the officer, injuring him, before being arrested.
