Two Mastic men were arrested Tuesday on charges of criminal impersonation and forgery in an apparent scrap-metal scam, Suffolk County police said.

Seventh Squad detectives said Christopher Barwick, 26, and Justin Barton, 24, both of 123 Wood Rd., were arrested and charged with falsely identifying themselves to employees of Long Island scrap-metal facilities.

Police said a quantity of copper pipe, cut into short pieces, and other metal plumbing fixtures were recovered. They also are investigating whether Barwick and Barton are connected to recent burglaries of copper pipe and fixtures from vacant houses.

Each man is charged with two counts of forgery and two counts of criminal impersonation. They were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
