A fire at a Mavis Discount Tire Center in Smithtown on Sunday evening caused part of the roof to collapse, authorities said.

Around 8 p.m., the Smithtown Fire Department received reports of a vehicle fire inside the store's auto body shop at 330 Maple Ave. off Route 111.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire throughout the service area of the building. About 100 firefighters from at least 10 departments responded to the scene, Smithtown Fire Department spokesperson Rick Torre said.

Photos from the scene show flames spewing from the store's garage while cars were parked inside.

"Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive attack; however, conditions rapidly deteriorated, leading to a partial collapse of the roof," Torre said in a statement. "Due to the structural compromise and intensity of the fire, operations transitioned to a defensive strategy."

The fire was put out just after 11 p.m. No injuries were reported, Torre said.

The Smithtown Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the fire.

"The dedication and professionalism displayed by our volunteer firefighters tonight was outstanding," Chief of Department Dan Dongvort said in a statement. "On a Sunday evening, when many were home with their families, these men and women answered the call without hesitation. Their commitment to protecting our community is something we can all be proud of."
